If you’re traveling out of the country, this guide will help you have the very best travel experience possible.

As a frequent international traveler who’s planning an inclusive resort wedding in Playa Del Carmen Mexico this year, here is everything I’m packing.

Mexico All Inclusive Packing List

I’ve designed this inclusive packing essentials list to be your best friend as you get ready to travel.

Let’s dive in.

Travel Documents and Essentials

Here are the essential travel documents you need to pack.

Passport

Check that your passport is up-to-date. FYI: Mexico does not currently require that your passport be valid for at least 6 months.

You might also want to grab a passport cover to protect your passport from scratches or water stains.

Travel Insurance Details

If you plan to get travel insurance, print out the details to keep handy.

You can also check your current international coverage with your medical insurance provider.

Photocopies of Important Documents

Many all inclusive resorts have safes in each resort room.

You can keep your passport and valuables in the safe and bring copies of your travel documents for day trips.

You can use a document organizer to store important documents and your passport.

Cash (Small Bills)

Some Mexico all inclusive resorts include tipping in your daily service fee, and some do not.

If not, you can keep a little bit of cash on hand for the week.

Credit Cards and Debit Cards

Bring travel credit cards that don’t wrack up exchange rate fees.

Check with your bank or credit card company before you travel to understand your card’s exchange rate fees.

I have my eye on the Capital One Venture X card (because of the great Airport lounge and travel credit benefits) and I’m exploring getting it. But there are tons of good travel card options out there.

Clothing & Accessories

Here is all the clothing you should pack for your all inclusive vacation.

Daytime Resort Clothing

Pack lightweight, breathable daytime clothing.

Fabrics like cottons and linens will be your best friend for tropical weather.

When packing tops, consider tank tanks and cotton button downs. For bottoms, consider lightweight shorts, skirts, and pants.

Matching sets are perfect for mix and match options.

Swimwear (Multiple Sets)

You’ll spend a lot of time by the water so it’s a good idea to bring multiple bathing suit options.

I like having a one piece to throw on under a beach cover up if I’m hanging out at the poolside bar.

Workout Wear

Add a workout set to your Mexico all inclusive packing list.

Resorts typically have great workout rooms. You might also join yoga or stretch classes.

A workout set is also great to have for activities outside of the resort.

Beach Cover Up(s)

You can have so much fun with different beach cover-ups.

I like to pack a sarong, dress, and something like a little throw for when I want to protect my shoulders from the sun.

Evening Attire (As per Resort Dress Codes)

Choose bright, colorful evening attire for your Mexico vacation. This is the time to dress up and go all out!

Dresses, 2 piece sets, and pant suits are usually a great fit for resort vibes.

Undergarments and Sleepwear

Pack extra underwear to avoid laundry. Also think about sleepwear and a light bathrobe for the hotel room.

Comfortable Walking Shoes

Sandals are great, but big resorts and day trips call for comfy walking shoes.

Choose something that dries quickly if you might be in and out of the water.

You can also bring water shoes if you’re visiting cenotes or boating.

Wedges or High Heels

Resorts often host evening shows, concerts, and comedy events.

Bring a beautiful pair of sandals, wedges or heels to pair with your evening attire.

Sandals or Flip-Flops

Sandals or flip flops are a must for the beach and pool. Bring a couple pairs that you can dress up or down and take to the ocean.

Sun Hat or Baseball Cap

I recommend a breathable sun hat that gives you 360 degree shade.

But, a baseball cap is another great option for beach activities.

Most resorts host activities like beach volleyball, day parties, and boating where its nice to have a hat.

Light Jacket or Sweater

Even in the warmest months you’ll want to pack a light sweater, just in case.

Bring something casual, and something that can be dressed up in the evenings.

Toiletries

Here are the toiletries you should bring to an all inclusive resort.

Typically, all inclusive resorts have shops where you can buy extra toiletries if needed.

Sunscreen (Reef-Safe Always)

Choose a biodegradable, reef-safe sunscreen that’s easy to apply and keep in your day bag.

Mexico has restrictions on non-biodegradable sunscreen so you’ll need to buy the right suncreen to pack.

Aloe Vera Gel

Be proactive about sunburns and pack a travel-sized aloe vera gel.

Bug Spray

Pack a non-aerosol bug spray or bug spray wipes.

And if you plan to hike or day trip during your time in Mexico, definitely pack your bug spray along.

Personal Hygiene Products

Waterproof and sweat proof products will be your best friend at a Mexico all inclusive resort.

The humidity can be quite high especially in the summer.

Sweat proof deodorant and waterproof makeup are good ideas. Pack a great face wash after a day of sunscreen and waterproof makeup.

Medications (Including Over The Counter Remedies)

Bring any prescription medications with you.

You can also bring basic over-the-counter remedies that are good to have when traveling.

If you’re staying in Puerto Vallarta, Playa Del Carmen, and other popular resort areas, you can visit local pharmacies.

Hand Sanitizer

A travel sized hand sanitizer bottle is great to have on hand for travel.

Accessories

Here are the must-have accessories you should pack for your all inclusive Mexico vacation.

Sunglasses

Bring a favorite pair of sunglasses. If you’re prone to losing yours, consider bringing your spare pair.

Reusable Water Bottle

It’s a good idea to stick to bottled water when you’re traveling in Mexico.

However you might find times to use a reusable water bottle in the resort.

Beach Bag or Light Weight Tote

Bring a big beach bag to keep small items when you’re at the pool or beach.

Choose a bag that zips or closes at the top.

Travel Backpack

If you’re going on day trips, your best friend is a small travel backpack. You can roll this up in your luggage and bring it out when needed.

Dry bag for Valuables

If you’re planning boat or kayak excursions consider bringing a dry bag.

Quick Dry Towel

A quick-dry towel is easy to pack when you’re visiting cenotes or beaches outside of your resort.

Waterproof Phone Case

I swear by having a waterproof phone case for ocean activities.

Portable Fan

This is just a fun idea if you’re someone who loves air conditioning.

A cute portable fan is great for hot days by the pool, or anytime you want to keep your makeup from running (maybe dinner or events).

Rain Poncho

Again, if you’re heading out to explore consider bringing a packable rain poncho.

Tropical weather can be unpredictable during certain seasons, check the weather forecast ahead of your trip.

Electronics

These are all the important electronics you need to add to your Mexico all inclusive packing list.

Phone Charger

Bring a phone charger (2 is even better than one).

I recommend 2 phone chargers so you have one for your hotel room and one for your portable power bank during the day.

Portable Power Bank

A portable charger is is a life saver and a must have for any trip. I don’t leave home for the airport without mine.

Trust me, this is worth the small investments o you’ll never think twice about the level of phone battery you have for photos.

E-reader or Tablet

If you’re a reader its a fantastic idea to bring a Kindle or some type of E-reader.

Headphones or Earbuds

Bring packable headphones or earbuds. Also pack the right charger for them.

Camera and Accessories

If you’re a classic camera person then your Mexico resort vacation is a great time to pack your camera.

You can keep it your in-room safe or transport it around the hotel with you.

Miscellaneous Items

This is a short list of a few extra items to add to your Mexico all inclusive packing list.

Books or Magazines

Some people don’t love E-readers and I totally get it.

Pack a good book or magazine for the plane ride and beachside.

Its perfect for those times you don’t want to be scrolling on your phone.

Travel-Sized Laundry Detergent

This is totally optional but it’s one of my favorite travel hacks.

You can use a travel sized laundry detergent to wash a few things in your bathroom sink (swimsuits and undergarments come to mind).

Wet Bag or Ziploc Bag(s) for Wet Items

If you’re planning to go from the pool to resort events, bring a ziplock bag or water proof swim suit bag to change quickly in the resort restroom.

First Aid Kit

Tiny first aid kits are nice to have on hand for peace of mind.

You can even throw in a tiny sewing kit if you need to fix a button or hem.

Commonly Forgotten Items

Here’s a quick list of super easy to forget items. Give it a scan before you pack.

• Prescription medications
• Extra chargers for phone and electronics
• Sunglasses and case
• Hats for sun protection
• Reusable shopping bag or tote for shopping
• Extra pair of flip-flops for the beach
• Bug spray or bug wipes
• lip balm with SPF
• Mini fan for your room (if you like white noise)

Personal Item

Keep all your essential items in one place during your flight.

Packing Cubes

I started using these and never looked back.

Packing cubes will keep everything you bring perfectly organized in your resort room, meaning less time digging around in your suitcase and more time for the pool!

Carry on Suit Case

Your all inclusive trip should include a great carry on suit case.

Choose a bag with the right dimensions for your airline so you can easily carry your electronics and other valuables on your flight.

A Great Luggage Set

If you need luggage for your all inclusive trip, consider investing in a good quality luggage set.

A well made luggage set typically includes a carry on suit case and a checked bag or two that will last you for years.
