This cozy town is about 15 east of downtown Atlanta. The great thing is once you park, everything is within easy reach. Downtown Decatur is full of well known restaurants, coffee spots, local shops, and beautiful murals.

I also love that Decatur hosts multiple festivals across the year. A couple to add to your list are Decatur Book Festival and Decatur Arts Festival. And for all the latest, visit @visitdecaturga

📍Historic Old Fourth Ward Park, Atlanta Georgia 📍Historic Old Fourth Ward Park, Atlanta Georgia

This peaceful park used to be an industrial brownfield. I didn’t know what a brownfield was, so I was researching a bit. It’s previously developed land where reuse is complicated by possible environmental contamination from industrial / commercial use.

You’d never know it from exploring the park today. Have you visited? #atlanta #atlantaoutdoors #atlantageorgia #oldfourthward
📍Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, Shipshewana Indiana On 📍Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, Shipshewana Indiana

One of my favorite things in Shipshewana was a bike ride on the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail! The trail takes you from Shipshewana to Middlebury, Elkhart, and then to Goshen.

If you’re like me, I think you’d love the forest canopies, quiet nature trails, cute shops along the route, and of course the fact that there are maps and restrooms!

Where to rent an e-bike or bike in Shipshewana:
📍2 Chicks and a Chair

Where to get on the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail:
📍Pumpkinvine Nature Trail Shipshewana Trailhead, E Depot Street

Pro tip:
Your bike will have a basket, so stock up on snacks or a picnic meal at the local shops! There are so many fantastic locally made treats in Shipshewana, make sure you take some on your ride.

This cozy town goes all out for Fall with harvest traditions, local events, and a festive straw bale art trail!

I visited in early October and loved the crisp Fall air, the beautiful scenery, and the kindness of everyone I met. Shipshewana feels like an easy place to disconnect from the world and relax.

I woke up around 7am and did a short stroll around Helen to grab coffee at @yonahcoffeecompany.

There’s something fun about being one of the first people out and about. Helen holds events year round, but this morning I managed to see a bit of the quieter side of things.

Helen Georgia is the 3rd most visited town/city in Georgia after Atlanta and Savannah, drawing in about 2 million visitors a year (according to the White County Convention & Visitors Bureau).

I got up early to grab a coffee and stroll around before the shops opened.

Brasstown Bald is the highest point in Georgia at 4,784 feet! You can take the 0.6 mile paved, steep trail from parking lot to summit.

Sautee-Nacoochee is a great stopping point after.

I had time to visit Sweetwater Coffeehouse, Old Sautee Store, Rustic Home Interiors, Lavender Cottage & Garden, and Butterfly Mornings & Wildflower Afternoons.

There many other great shops to check out, plus Folk Pottery Museum just down the road!

📍 Brasstown Bald, GA A few questions I researche 📍 Brasstown Bald, GA

A few questions I researched before going:

How far is the drive from Atlanta?: About 2 hours, but add time for narrow mountain roads and a 0.6 mile steep walk up to the lookout.

What is the walking trail like?:
It’s a 0.6 mile paved trail. Some parts are uneven, and it is steep the entire way up. I believe there is a shuttle option during park hours if you want to take a ride to the top.

What are the facilities like?:
There’s a large paved parking lot. The restrooms and office are shut at sunrise. I did notice shuttles and wheelchair access at the top, but I’m not sure the hours they operate.

This is your sign not to talk yourself out of the sunrise hike!

This is the view from Brasstown Bald, Georgia.

It’s the highest point in Georgia at 4,784 ft / 1,458 meters.

The quickest way to get there at sunrise is to park at the Brasstown Bald Visitors Center parking lot, and take the 0.6 mile Wagon Trail Trailhead up to the observation point.

Take the Walk Up Trailhead from the Stone Mountain Walk-Up Trail parking lot.

Bring plenty of water, slip proof shoes, and a hat or sunglasses. There’s shade part of the way up, but closer to the top the trail opens to steep rock.

The 360 degree views of Atlanta and the north Georgia Mountains are worth it!
