Helen GA Romantic Weekend Itinerary: How to Enjoy Your Time in Helen
Here is the full explanation of activities for your weekend. Choose the activities that sounds fun, and build your perfect weekend.
Day 1
Arrive and Settle into your Hotel: Helen is the spot for cozy, luxurious cabins tucked into the woods. I share recommendations for where to stay further down in this article.
Stroll downtown Helen: Kick off the weekend exploring downtown Helen. Walk through the Bavarian mountain town shops on Main Street.
Ride the Georgia Mountain Coaster: The coaster is open as late at 9 p.m. on some evenings, so you can book tickets even if you’re arriving into Helen in the evening.
Dinner in downtown Helen: Visit a Bavarian restaurant like Troll’s Tavern or an up-and-coming favorite like Campfire, both on Main Street.
Day 2
Morning coffee: Stop by Yonah Coffee Company Coffee on Main Street for some pre-hike caffein. OR, snag Bavarian pastries at Hofer’s Bakery and Cafe.
Hike in the mountains: Anne Ruby Falls is a 0.9 mile round-trip hike you can do in a couple of hours. At the end, a fan waterfall and gives stunning views of the forest from the walking trail.
OR, Yonah Mountain is ideal for a moderate uphill hike with stunning views from the top. The round-trip trail is straight up, so bring plenty of water.
Take a wine tour tasting: Visit wineries at your own pace, or take a guided wine tour with companies like VIP Southern Tours. Wineries around Helen are great for flights of unique wines, boutique vineyard tours, and local live music.
Check out this guide to 10 Helen GA wineries and vineyards if you’re venturing out on your own without a tour.
The guide covers everything from ordering a gourmet picnic lunch at Kaya Vineyard and Winery, to soaking up the live music and Italian ambiance at Serenity Cellars.
Relax at Nacoochee Crossing Wellness Center: This is a highly-rated day spa beside the historic Hardman Farm. Schedule time for a Relaxation Package. Or, select an ala cart massage or facial.
While you’re in the area, slate time to stop into Old Sautee Store. This shop is a 19th-century general store with historical goods but also a deli and shop in operation.
Dinner in Helen: Grab dinner at a winery or visit a restaurant in town.
Sip Wine on Your Balcony: Enjoy a glass of wine at your Airbnb or hotel. Accommodations around Helen often have private balconies, hot tubs, and beautiful scenery that are perfect for a chill evening in.
Day 3
Breakfast at Sweetwater Coffee House: This gem offers serious cozy coffee house vibes just south of downtown Helen. Take a seat on the covered porch and sip one of their tasty featured lattes.
Chattahoochee River Float: Okay, this is one of the most fun couple’s activities in Helen in the warmer months. Slate 3 to 5 hours to float the river, and get to the river early to beat the crowd.
In my experience, Helen Tubing Company was easy to book and the tubes did well on the water. But, there are several companies renting tubes and they offer similar packages.
JumpinGoats Coffee and Nora Mill Granary: On your way out of town stop at JumpinGoats Coffee Roasters and Nora Mill Granary. They shops are right beside Habersham Winery if you want to add one more tasting to the tail end of your trip.
Romantic Places to Stay in Helen GA
If you’re looking for a perfect romantic getaway, consider a private suite or cabin around Alpine Helen like Viking Hilltop Suites.
The suite featured a private balcony, fire pit, and exceptional views within walking distance of downtown.
I would avoid staying directly downtown as the music on weekends can go late and be a bit loud if you’re trying to enjoy a romantic evening.
A Bit About the History of Helen GA
Helen is a logging town turned Bavarian-themed village. As the logging industry waned in the 20th century, citizens came together and re-designed the entire town as a Bavarian village. It’s now the third most visited town in Georgia!
